Kirsten and David’s wedding was set for the Saltbar which overlooks one of Kingscliff’s beautiful beaches and has Peppers Salt Resort and Spa right there for guests to stay and relax.
We wanted to be there for the whole day to capture the story and with this been a northern NSW wedding and the daylight savings time difference with QLD we decided to mix work and play and I brought my family down to stay at the resort for the weekend.

Getting down there the day before gave me a chance to meet the couple and some of there close friends and family before the big day. I always like to do this so that I can get to know people a little better, its fun and I believe makes for better wedding photos. Taking the time to talk to people and understand what they like is one of the important steps to transforming photos into portraits. I want to capture more than a likeness but a character, a feeling and their story.

I met their wedding celebrant Jules Wood for the wedding rehearsal on the lawn just up from the beach. It was quite special for Jules because she is a friend and works with Kirsten. Jules was great and made this time for the couple both fun and relaxed.

The weather was in question for their wedding day but they went through the plan with Pitie, the function coordinator, from Saltbar Beachbar and Bistro.  Pitie was very organised and gave the couple options and recommendations. All the staff there where very helpful, the place has such a great atmosphere, and the view from the balcony makes Saltbar a great beach side wedding venue.

Their wedding day arrived and it was an early start for me to catch the boys as they prepared for a game of golf together. The weather was great as I photographed the boys getting ready at the golf course and on the 1st tee and then left them to continue their fun. The boys would have finished their golf when a huge storm hit the resort. What do they say “rain on your wedding day is good luck” well they had lots of luck. The bridal preparations were in one of the resort rooms at Mantra overlooking the ocean. While the preparations continued the girls delighted in 4 beautiful whales playing just off the coast line in front of us.

A little magic happened.  Just as the outdoor ceremony was to be set up, the skies started to clear and lawn wedding went ahead- with out a hitch! The weather held for the ceremony and the photo shoot on the beach and then the rain came down just as Kirsten and David arrived back to their reception. What a great day with great images to come. Kirsten and David will be into the studio soon to pick their favorite images for their wedding album. Until then you’ll have to wait a little longer to see their images.
